Alexandra Ziemann is researcher and Ph.D. fellow at the Department of International Health.

 

Her research focuses on syndromic surveillance, health geography and the cooperation of health care and public health in Europe. Since 2008, she is scientific/technical project officer of the European Commission co-funded project SIDARTHa which develops and evaluates a European syndromic surveillance system based on routinely collected emergency medical care data. Since September 2010, she coordinates a work package of the EU-project TRIPLE S which deals with a review of syndromic surveillance activities in Europe.

 

Alexandra Ziemann studied geography, public health and international law at the universities of Greifswald, Bonn and Munich/Germany. From 2006-2007 she worked as research assistant and lecturer for health geography at the Department of Geography, University of Cologne, Germany. Between 2002 and 2006 she was student assistant and freelancer at the Scientific Secretariat of the German National Committee on Global Change Research. Since 2002, she is affiliated with the GEOMED Research Group at the Universities of Bonn and Munich/Germany, later GEOMED Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, Bad Honnef/Germany (medical geography and health systems research). During this time she was involved in European projects on health information and monitoring, and research projects on global environmental changes, health systems research, urban health and healthy settings in Europe and India.
