Thomas Krafft’s research interests are in Health Systems Research (especially pre-hospital and emergency care), Syndromic Surveillance, Health Geography, and Global Environmental Change and Urban Health. Regional foci lay in Europe, India and China.
He is visiting professor for Health Geography at Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Center for Health Management Studies & Research in Pune/India and honarary professor of the Institute for Geography and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing/China. He lectures at the Centre for Management and Quality in Health Care, Donau-University Krems/Austria.
Thomas Krafft studied at the Philipps-Universität in Marburg (Diplom-Geograph), the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn (Dr. rer. nat.). Between 1993 and 2007 he was the head of an interdisciplinary research group (GEOMED) at the universities in Bonn, Munich (LMU) and Cologne. Between 1997 and 2006 he was Scientific Secretary of the German National Committee on Global Change Research, an advisory board to the DFG (German Research Foundation) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). He is the Chair of the Advisory Group on Global Change and Health of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) and the Scientific Secretary of the Commission on Health and the Environment of the International Geographical Union (IGU-CHE).
Currently (2010-2012) Thomas Krafft is Senior Visiting Professor at the Institute for Geography and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Center for Health and Environment), Beijing/China.
