Timo Clemens is PhD candidate at the Department of International Health. His research focuses on Public Health aspects in the process of European cooperation and integration. Timo uses comparative and multi-level approaches to the analysis of the welfare state and of health policies in particularly. In his PhD research he is analyzing Europeanisation effects in the organization of hospital care in EU Member States.
Biography/Background/Career summary/Working experience/Education
Timo started his working career as a nurse in Germany. After working as a nurse and deputy head of the ward
for several years he started studying European Public Health (EPH) in 2006 at Maastricht University. Within the Bachelor program he took a minor in European Public Law at Maastricht University.
Furthermore, he combined the writing of his Bachelor thesis with a research internship at the Dutch Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in Bilthoven concentrating on welfare to
work and extension of pension age policies. After graduating from the Bachelor he enrolled to the consecutive Master program of EPH in 2009 and completed the study successfully in 2010 with a thesis
topic on Priority setting in health care in the Netherlands. Next to the Master he worked as a research assistant for the Department of International Health working on Ethics in European and
International Health Policy.
